Charles Hu is a figure painter and notable art instructor. In this class, you will be focusing on the elements of quick sketch: gesture, rhythm, line of action, volume, stretch and pinch. Charles will show you how to handle drapery and different fabrics, and you will learn how to use the folds the fabric to benefit the gesture of the pose. You will also learn to unify the action of the pose by creating shapes that give a dynamic read.
You will be experimenting with different mediums like pastel charcoal, fountain pen, marker, ball point pen. The uniqueness of each medium will be covered, including the proper skill set and techniques needed to master every one, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. The goal is to take what you learn from this class and be able to sketch at you favorite locations in your sketchbook.
You will benefit from Charles’ generous teaching style as he provides informative lectures and beautiful demonstrations. In-person participants will be working alongside Charles from live models. Charles’ work will be recorded live, as well as broadcast to large displays so you can follow along no matter where you're positioned in the studio.
Online Full Access participants can upload photos of their weekly work into the class chatroom and get a full critique from Charles, where he will trace over your drawings and provide individualized feedback. You can watch the recordings on your own time, and you do not have to participate in the critiques if you don't want to.
The class recording will be available for your viewing every Tuesday at 7:00pm PST. You will receive online access to the recording of the lecture portion for one year or six months depending on your purchase plan. This is helpful to reinforce the principles of each week, and to catch any concepts you may have missed the first time around.
